Phytochemical Contents and Antioxidant potentials of Eggplants from Kano State, Nigeria: A Review

Fruits and vegetables are considered as good source of functional foods due to their health benefits nutritional content. Dietary constituents fruits vegetable commonly available has significant application in management chronic diseases such as; coronary heart disease, stroke, cancer diabetes, many medicinal purposes, control excess weight obesity high fiber content present. Many phenolic compounds had been identified garden eggplant catechin, rutin, naringin, naringenin, syringic acid, chlorogenic caffeic p-coumaric sinapic acid anthocyanin. Health-conscious consumers generally focus on the antioxidant capacity, content, vitamins, carotenoids phytochemicals. All varieties egg vary polyphenol endowed with activity. Polyphenolic activity eggplants which depend cultivar, maturity stage parts fruit. Growing conditions also reported significantly affect contents. This review discussed polyphenolic contents activities different cultivars. Priority was given green, white dark-purple cultivars grown Nigeria.
